My son in law just had his 2001 Honda hot wired and stolen. It was totally decked out with custom everything, inside and out. Needless to say the kid is sick about the hole thing. :U
But this made me nervous about my own car. I'm sure no matter how well you protect a car, if they want it bad enough they can disable a alarm. But I'm not going to make it easy for them either. I read in a string months ago about some kind of system that disconnected the battery completly from the starter. I don't know if this was a remote or keying device but I am interested a some thing like this that would slow down a thief, any advice ????
Re: whats the best security system available ?? (utahrookie)
There is a system out there (please, anyone interject with the name) that has a "secured" starter solenoid. It installs and looks just like a factory unit and requires no added wiring, etc. You program it to start only when a set number of "start" impulses are received from the ignition - that is, you insert the key, click it to "on" two times, wait, then three more (for example) and the car will then start. As I understand it, you can set it to whatever series you want (1 then 3, 2 then 1, etc.). It has always sounded like a great idea to me, but I just never got around to getting one and installing it. Personally, I think any system that disables the car is the best one. Sirens, lights flashing - no one pays attention to those anymore. Thieves are so good they don't either. Plus, you wouldn't want to confront anyone stealing your car - they might be armed. Get a system that prevents the car from starting or kills it soon after it starts. My .02 :) Good luck!

if your anything like me and you have a gun with you all the time you could get an alarm that pages you if something is messed with
one of the guys in my office has an alarm that has a picture of the vehicle on the remote if you start the car a little fan comes on the remote and starts turning to let you know it is running it also has a feature were if the door is opened the car on the remote has the door open so you can see what went wrong if the window is broken then the car window on the remote shatters the remote looks like a cel phone and runs about $80 just for it it beeps when you alarm is set off
i am going today to ask a guy at the alarm shop how low he will go on the price if i get several i have 3 vehicles that want it right now
i will find out more in a little bit and post it here
