Default Rotor Wiggle

Here is a question for the group... I removed my front tires off the car and I can wiggle the rotor back and forth (in and out) on the car. Now I know that on my wifes Miata that is common that the brake caliper is bolted on then the tire and that is what holds it together but I don't recall anyone mentioning that about the vettte. I thought they were riveted and after you replace them you have to use a screw. Any ideas

thanks

They were riveted from the factory but when they are replaced you would need to drill and tap the spindle in order to bolt them back in place. Since the rim holds them in, most do not bother.

I'd suggest that if the calipers are bolted to the rotors on your wife's Miata that you get it fixed right away.

Ha ha... ya I meant that the tire being bolted on held everything together. The front ones must have gotten replaced cuz that's exactly how they are...the back still look to be riveted or some type of screw on them in four holes.

I thought only the back were riveted from the factory. I've drilled the back rivets before, but never any on the front.

Ralph.

All four rotors were riveted when new.
