So I recently installed a new composite rear spring and shocks (VBP) on my 75. I got the car on the ground and was going to wrap the exhaust to protect the spring and realized that the exhaust on the driver side is only about 1/2 inch away from the spring. Too close for comfort.
I was looking to see if there was any way to move the exhaust system but it's a welded custom setup ( was on when I bought the vette ). The problem is that the dual exhaust pipes are too far from the center line of the car where it passes under the spring.
So.... I've never done any exhaust work and I wasn't planning on replacing the exhaust system yet.. but are the kit's from CC or Willcox completely bolt-on, or is welding required?
Any recommendations?
It's a 75 L-48, McJack's headers (not yet installed )....
I have the CC true dual with Magnaflow set up and a VB&P 330# spring. The CC kit is bolt-on, but IMO, it needs to be welded.
I wrapped my pipes and spring in header wrap in the proximity of the spring. I agree that 1/2" is too close for comfort, but if you wrap everything up, you might be ok.
If the piping is in good shape and otherwise not in need of replacing, find a good hotrod exhaust guy in yuor area and get him to cut/move the pipe away from the spring. Thats the solution that worked for me! Good luck!
