Default Original 76 engine color?

When I bought the 76 vette the engine was painted blue (paint is old and falling off) I sound dumb but the correct color is orange on all the engines right?

I was told it's the original engine. And I have a 76 with that ugly blue. So either it was repainted, engine was swapped or somehow there were a few 76's with this ugly blue too

I understood that the engine paint color was changed in 1977.

Check the numbers on your engine block to see if it is the original for your car. It will have some of the vin numbers on it.

This may sound like a dumb question but it's not. Where is your dome light?

Quote from the Corvette Black Book: "Between August 23 and September 7, 1976 Flint Engine changed from orange paint to blue for Corvette engines. Thus, early production 1977 models were orange, later production were blue."

If your '76 has a blue engine either the engine was swapped out or it was repainted sometime during it's life.

Weird. My '76 doesn't have a dome light in the T-tops, I had to add it. All I had was the floor and the cargo area. I didn't know '76s had "dome" lights.

Im almost starting to think I have a 77. However my vin says 76. And it has the single Crome mirror drivers side (not on 77) It stays stingray on fender (not on 77) and Crome window trim.

However I read that some late model 76s had interior upgrades. So I guess the dome light could be one

Could be. I have the "early" '76 bumper and I've never checked the numbers, so I'll assume the whole car is "early". Is your emblem on the rear 6" (early) wide or 8" (late) wide?

The "corvette" lettering. If I remember correctly, I believe the early '76s are 6" wide and rest in a recess, where as the late '76s and '77s are 8" wide and don't rest in a recess. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yea I've got 8". So it looks like I've got mixed matched parts. I'm not too upset, now there's nothing holding me back from playing around with that engine and getting some real power

Your 76 may have (or had) a map light in the mirror instead of a dome light. Check your mirror it may still be there.

I surely did. I took it out while I was doing some interior work and someone sat on it and cracked the mirror and bent the housing (beyond a nice looking repair). I had a hell of a time finding another one, but I wasn't going to pay as much as they were wanting for a replacement when I did find them... I like the dome light better anyway.
