Default New Throttle Cable Install

Thanks to a forum member (TomW) who recently did this, I decided to get rid of the jury-rigged setup I had and install a new setup. I even installed a new pedal, pedal chrome, and pedal rod (Bubba had bent the old one to resolve his issues.) It came out great and wasn't hard to do, just time consuming. Here are a few pics....

That looks like a LOKAR setup I was eyeballing. Looks good. I guess I will have to break down and do it also. I was just wanting to not totally break the bank.

Keep up the good work and let us know how it works out.

Lokar, What length cable did you buy and was trimming necessary? Did you use the Lokar pedal too? Any pics of that?

It is the lokar setup. Cable is the 1000HT (24") and lokar bracket. You do need to trim the sheath and cable, but it is very easy. The directions are ok and will give you the idea of the order to do things in. It could have been written a little better, but I just layed the setup on the fender and understood the directions much better. I am using the stock pedal. I actually like the cable better because there is a clevis at the end of the cable I left on. If you look at the stock setup at the pedal, there is a small ball at the end of the cable that keeps the cable from passing through the plastic gromit (not a great GM design.) I left the clevis on and it will never pass through the hole in the pedal. The only item that was an issue is the firewall hole. The stock cable is slightly larger than the lokar fittings for the firewall. I used two washers on each side of the firewall to resolve this issue.

Looks good!! I did the same thing with the washers and clevis setup as you did and it works well. Your job turned out great.

I also installed the Lokar cable, although with the CSI throttle cable bracket. I did the same stuff as you with the firewall washers. I did remove the clevis however, and underneath it is a crimped on ball, just like the stock cable. I just used it like the stock ball. I discovered my gas pedal bracket is bent also. I bent it back up by hand, and my god! Is that thing soft! It felt like bending lead solder. Does any company make a stronger gas pedal linkage that bolts in? Or do the later C3's have stronger gas pedal setups? I know mine is going to bend back

Eddie, The total cost from Summit was about $50. This included the cable, bracket and 2 of the chrome return springs. The cable (LOK-TC-1000HT) is easy to find at the Summit while browsing through their web site, but you will have to do a search to find the bracket(LOK-SRK-4000). Summit sells so much more stuff then is shown while browsing the online catalog.

A C, I agree with what you said about the pedal bracket. I'm on my 3rd in the past 16 years. Bending seem to be the easiest fix, but that metal will not hold up if bent too much. My current one is out of a 73(they were out of stock for one for my 71 at the time). The 73 pedal sits much higher than the 71 and seems to help it from being held up by the floor mat, as has always been the case in the past. This may not work for everyone though. Because I wear size 13 shoes, I can get away with the higher pedal. When this one breaks, I plan to make my own from some 440c stainless steel. I gaurantee that one will never break :D

Tom

Eddie, it is called a Lokar high tech throttle cable. You can get them at Summit http://store.summitracing.com/ They are about 32 bucks. You only need the 24 incher, and that is even too long. You have to trim the cable and housing, but it is made to be trimmed. It looks very clean when you are done, and it's pretty adjustable.
