I have a late model 76 (only 20000 made after) and I have alot of 77 features throughout the car. If you have a late 76 I have some questions on what things look like on yours.
that's not a late model...that's about right in the middle
I don't know where you got your info but your car is in the middle of the build year which is about three to six months earlier than the calendar year....Mine was built in Dec, 75 and is about 15,000 out of the 46,558 or so made for reference.
There were constant changes each year and if yours has lots of 77 stuff it may not be original but 77 parts later put on a 76. Often the case. I am tall so took the original top mounted center rear view mirror and bought a windshield mount 77 glue on mirror and mounted it low to remove the blind spot by looking over it.
I think some are original 76 parts even though they mostly only show up on 77s. However it's weird I have a 77 engine. Someone must have blown it early and picked up the blue 77 engine
Get the numbers from the front passenger side of the engine block and the guys will be able to give you an idea of your engines origin. PO may have wanted to paint his engine blue. What other items seem to be '77 in origin? mike...
Mine has that exact interior, however I have the single Crome mirror on the drivers side (76), my window trim is Crome(76) and it says stingray on the fendor. Oh and the vin is 76.
Its definitely a 77 engine (unless some late 76 have 77 code), I have 77 hood and gastank emblems along with interior being 77. I heard that alot of late 76s did get some interior features that the 77 does
If you had the build sheet from on top of the gas tank or the window sticker original it would be helpful but I've read that change was a constant depending on suppliers, the way chevy introduced changes during model years, etc. However, as old as these cars are, mine is 36 years old now, it is also not at all unlikely that if an interior was redone it could have been redone with up or down one or two, nose and tail up or down some. I have a friend with a 65 convertible and he thought his 327 engine was a 300 hp original though he isn't into numbers and checking. He gave it to his son who a year ago had it rebuilt by a group where he lives in California and it had a 350 block in it which had come from a blown original engine warranty replacement type engine, had the wrong intake, the wrong carburetor on it, etc. so part of the rebuild was to modernize the 350 that was in it while painting, doing frame off, etc.
It turned out well but at these ages and stages a whole lot of things aren't the way they came from the factory sometimes including rear ends, transmissions, power equipment, etc.
Nice looking car, by the way. Pretty lines aren't they?
I'm taking a lady friend Friday from my house down a twisty road to the jamestown ferry, crossing and having lunch at Berrett's Seafood then back along the other side on route five. One of my favorite drives at 85 miles or more round trip with two lane roads that twist and have some 35-45 mph max speed curves and light traffic in the country. I don't quite manage to get down to those speeds though...more like 65-75 through them but don't average more than 65 as it is a 55 mph max limit., The twisties on my car with those huge tires are really fun to push it around the turns...it's been rebuilt with new shocks and so on for that and I do it that way.
As good as your car looks who cares if it's a 76 or 77 part?
Your suspension components can also be from other years so don't be shocked to learn what p.o's have done. Not at all unusual. Mine has true duals through bullet cats and flowmasters, not at all original design but it has 33 hp more as a result with faster timing too.
thats why I bought my 76 , something to play with.
I just finished the cosmetices with the car jacked up on jackstands in December then redid the carpet and seats and insulation thinking it would take all winter and did it all in two weeks or less so parked it more or less then started driving it again in the warm weather. It is really fun to drive though the l48 through a 3:36 rear end with four speed doesn't have near the punch of my 2008 tbss with 2008 ls2 400 hp awd through its stock 4:10 rear end on 20" wheels. It flat flies...with it's race suspension is amazing too. I'm lucky..the best of both worlds.

I looked myself online. CLA was 77 engines. I'm just wondering if there was a fluke and not enough cars had this engine to make note of
Again, sorry. Your engine came from 1977 Corvette serial number 45472 built around August 2nd 1977, almost the end of the production year. The engine itself was assembled on July 20th 1977.
I might be new to vettes but I'm not retarded. The 6th digit is a 6- meaning 1976
I think the key being lost here is that you think that your engine is all original. It is not. I assume someone told you it was all original and the easiest and simplest explanation is that either they did not know either or they lied to sell the car for a higher dollar amount.
I know now it's not original. But I actually got it pretty cheap. I don't mind it not being original. Because now I can get some hp into it and not worry about depreciating the value

A 76 has no value, I have been trying to sale/trade my numbers matching 4 speed car for months with not even one visit.
