Default Borla Mufflers ?

I see the Dynomax Ultraflows and Edelbrock 304s and the Flowmasters everywhere in the Forum but I never hear anything about the Borla Mufflers. I know there are two versions of it and one is the Stainless Steel Muffler and the other is the Split Flow Race Muffler.

Is anyone using them or does anyone know what they sound like? I'm planning on using an X PIPE and shortie headers fron Sanderson.

Any Opinions? Thanks JIM

A lot of money for polished stainless steel with steel wool inside. I have seen one cut open.

I had them on my street rod, and since they are essentially straight thru pipes they are loud. I liked them. Joe

I had a pair on my 78 and they are loud, set off lots of alarms in parking lots  . I switched to side pipes, I felt that they looked better, but they are not as loud, they don't set off as many alarms  Roger L. Gibbons

Thanks for the replies. I was wondring if any of you were using the XR-1 Sportsman Race Mufflers or just the regular Borla? I have heard several comments about Borla being loud but never anyone identify which type it was or if it was both.

I am also curious if with dual converters and and X Pipe they may be just about right. I haven't heard anyone account for how much a set of Hi-Flow Converters will reduce the DB of sound but I have read that the X Pipe will lower it 6 - 8 DB.

Another consideration is that this is a 5 speed car and it may not have the same Drone that an automatic car would have. There are so many variances to the subject of exhaust that it's hard to make an educated guess as to what a car will sound like.

Oh well, I think I'm going to try them and if they don't work out There's Always E-bay ! Thanks JIM :seeya
