Poly motor mounts - should I get trans mount also?
I'm going to install the Energy Suspension poly motor mounts when I put the 350 back in my 69. The motor will be hotter than stock and I'll be running a high rise intake (Weiand Stealth - Classic 8016) with the stock SB hood. The reason I am going with poly is to prevent the air cleaner from getting into the hood under torque. My question is should I ALSO get the poly trans mount to go with this or will I be fine running the stock rubber mount? My car is a 4 speed.
I want to achieve the goal of protecting the hood but keep added vibration to a minimum. My thoughts were that if I ran a rubber trans mount maybe I could reduce vibration somewhat? I'm not sure how much the trans mount acts to prevents torquing so I am looking to others for insight.
I run a ES poly trans mount on my big block and it has been fine. I'd recommend it. I will say this though that my headers partially melted my ES motor mounts. I am using heat shields on both sides to protect the mounts and this has worked. I used the shields intended for a car with A/C.
Thanks for the info. What heat shields are you talking about? My car is an A/C car but I don't recall a shield being on there. Just the shields for the spark plugs as they routed under the ram's horns.
Look in the Corvette parts catalogs. They may be just for big blocks. Not sure. But there are heat shields for the motor mounts on A/C equipped cars, at least for my '68 and I'm sure for other years. I bought two of them (even though they only list it for one side) and put one on each side. Solved my problem 100%.

shouldnt be an issue if you have ceramic coated headers???
I have es motor mounts with ceramic hooker headers and sidepipes and no melting issues here..
