I use Aeroshell 100 in my aircraft. GA piston aircraft engines are generally air-cooled, low compression, low-HP/CID engines with loose clearances. Camshafts are mild and spring pressures are low. Oil is generally changed every 25 hours or so...or roughly the ground equivalent of 1,500 miles (60 MPH * 25 hours = 1,500 miles) I pay about $90 for a 12 case locally; the multi-viscosity stuff is a little higher.
Aircraft cams/lifters do fail...but generally more because of sitting/age than anything else...and they give a pretty good warning as oil analysis is done on every change.
With all the good choices, can't understand using anything other than a good motor oil - especially not something designed for a completely different application.
