Thats a very cool install. I like it, even if it's not a Turbo...
The low rpm torque and throttle responce of the TPI with the top-end force fed by the supercharger should be a very nice combo for the street.

EXCELLENT! :reddevil
It seems like there has been a lot of discussion about forced induction lately. I sure wouldn't mind joining that club. Seems like it could be a reliable upgrade with the appropriate bottom end if you could refrain from exceeding ~600/600.
Go for it Pat! Clear the path for us to follow. :yesnod:
yeah i really like this setup mark(x-otic )and i were talking about it today and i think its the way to go http://corvetteactioncenter.com this where i saw it
Nice setup, that's the first one I've ever seen. I've always wondered why more people didn't go that route as it wouldn't be too difficult.
As for that breather element, it's much too small for the compressor inlet filter, I'd guess some kind of tank breather - vacuum/scavenge pump reservoir?
The Vortec website claims about 85 HP gain for about $3250. The photo suggests air is being collected behind the radiator which means 190 degree intake air vs ambient of, say, 80. or a 110 degree difference. The rule of thumb is 1% gain or drop for each 10 degree intake air change. So the intake air location is giving up 11% or 45 HP.
Said another way, for next to nothing, I can get half the HP gain claimed by Vortec.
I brought this idea up in the engine forum a couple of months ago and I didn't get too many good responses. Most of the guys said they didn't like the TPI system and that I should go with something else. I have an extra 327 laying around and I might just put a TPI and a SC on it for the 71! Or I could just drop that gen V 4-bolt 427 block in that I have laying around......
What kind of supercharger setup is that Matt? Looks like it would fit under the hood. I was thinking of the Vortech supercharger for carbs, but I was wondering if the plumbing would fit under the hood? I have an L-88 hood, so there is a little extra clearance.
It is a Paxton Novi 2000. The kit isn't made by Paxton, though- I build custom supercharger kits.
A Vortech unit would be a good way to go. They make very reliable superchargers. Also, I don't see any reason you couldn't fit a Vortech S trim under the hood, as they are quite a bit smaller than the Novi 2000.
matt...maybe you can fill us in on the mounting of the pulleys and accessories?? thats the whole problem i didnt understand about mounting one in my car with short water pump and power steering...everything i have found said it couldnt be used with power steering.
thanks
Chris
Yeah, that´s exactly what I was searching for!
This is a great setup!
Is this your car, matt?
How much $ will it take to convert a standard 350 to a supercharger setup?
I guess you´ll have to decrease compression?
I´d love to build a new 355 with a supercharger like this pic shows.
That´s way too
How much HP can be achieved with a reliable setup?
Yes, that is my car. You can usually run 6 psi with a 9.5 to 1 motor and still run 93 octane without any problems. I would recommend a lower compression ratio if you want to run much more boost than that. It is also very easy to set up if you run the right parts. 500 rwhp from a 355 is easily achieved in street trim and with pump gas. I'm not sure if Vortech's universal SBC kit fits on C3's, but it is priced very nicely if it does.
