Default Tuning Help

Hello all I am pretty new to the forum and have read and learned tons from the site already in which I thank everyone. I have a 1978 SA L-48 that is my baby. I have accumulated parts from friends for the motor and just recently installed them.

Added Parts:

Holley Street Avenger 670
Edelbrock 2701 Intake Manifold
OBX Headders and Side Pipes - They fit awesome by the way

Other than that it is all stock with No Emissions controls.

In the future I will be buying heads and a cam but I need to find some project heads first so I can port and polish them ( Yes I would Like to do as much as I can ) but I will have the valve job done by a machinest.

My question now to all the tuners out there is how should the car be tuned now with these additions to get the most out of the setup. I will be purchasing the advance timing kit but is there a special setup for the carb. Jets, secondary vacuum spring size?

Any info would be appreciated.......

I think your next step is to set up the advance curve. Lots of good information on this site, and a few conflicting opinions, no doubt, but basically you want about 12 degrees of advance at idle (with the vacuum advance disconnected), and a centrifugal advance of 36 degrees all in by 3000 rpm. Play with your distibutor until you get this. Connect your vacuum advance canister to manifold (not ported) vacuum and set your idle speed. Then you can move on to jetting.

Re Curving the timing today. I have my timing light and vacuum gauge and some new springs for the distributer. Good day for testing 60 and sunny.

drwet you say to connect the canister to manifold vacuum. There is a dedicated port for the advance on the street avenger carb. Should I use this vacuum or use the empty full manifold that I have available?

After it is done what should I be looking for (or hearing, or seeing) for the carb jetting?
