I have made it my quest this summer to swap my hood from what I bought it with this:
to the stock which came with it. However, it turns out something is a little too high in my carb, intake, or air cleaner. what i have is shown below:
I also have an edlebrock air cleaner with a 3" filter. The intake is a Wieland, would switching to the stock intake give me the necessary space to make the hood close without having something dig into the hood?
Yup. But also if you switched to the original air cleaner it would also fit with that intake. I have a Wieand and it is the same hieght as my original "with" a two inch spacer under the carb. I have a 77.
Older pic.
That intake looks far shorter then the one I have. Also, from what i have seen my stock intake is similar to the one i have, i am not sure what size the air filter is on the stock version though.
Jay, if you got a screamer under the hood then keep the single plain but if it's mild build ,go with the dual plain and be done with it. Your loosing a lot of low end torque!!!
With some air cleaners (not sure about stock) Edlebrock Carbs with electric chokes require a spacer between the air cleaner and carb to clear the choke housing.
I did attempt to find a filter that was shorter then 3", but local auto parts stores only had 2 3/4" which was not enough of a drop down. Would a 2" filter work or would that cut into the air flow too much?
That's one of the air cleaners that I had and it took a spacer, I think it is a 1/2 inch. Place the cleaner on the carb you know pretty quick. I believe that a two inch filter is as small as you want to go and it might clear.
I guess mine was the #1207 You may be ok here is what Edelbrock says
"NOTE: #1207 is stock height and requires spacer #8092 with electric choke carbs or banjo fitting #8089 with manual choke carbs. #1221 fits all Edelbrock square-bore carbs and Q-jets (3/8" taller than #1207).
Another question I have is, has anyone taken measurement of the height of the stock intake? The websites for edelbrock and weiand make mention of front and back height. But i cant find anything on the stock intake.
i don't see where its a dropped base. get a Moroso unit from jegs or summit. if you must have that edelbrock look use the moroso base and the edelbrock lid.the. moroso unit is better as the lid directs flow better.
