Default front coil overs for C3

Does anyone make a decent setup now? I know we used to have trouble with the QA1s before but now I have no options to my knowledge. Any help is appreciated

What problem were you referring to? The best deal going for semi's is QA-1 dual adjust with the larger machined aluminum disk and spring choices from speed direct. I got the 600 pound for driving around town and the 700 pound for track days.

when i bought mine the retards at QA-1 convinced me that their progressive 350 pound spring was correct for a certain front weight vehicle. I had been using the VB&P 550# for 20 years. Anyway my fenders would rub the front tires in a hard turn from body roll so I was glad to buy the 600# and later the 700#

Have to agree with gKull and PHPD7102 the SpeedDirect semi coilovers - using a combination of QA1 shocks and SpeedDirect springs, base etc are fantastic.

Got mine after chatting with gKull - he gave good advice, very happy.

Great adjustment, good ride and lots of spring rates available.

Craig, the rubber stop on your front arm is excess unsprung weight. Your shock would bottom out and blow up before you can hit the stop

Call, write or visit website of Van Steel. I recall seeing their coil over configuration in their shop in Clearwater, FL. they can set you up.

Van Steel rocks as well. I have their rear coilover set up as Speed Direct didnt make a set up for the 1981 cars at the time. I love the coil overs and the car corners like its on rails.

Craig,

Nice write up on your car, and thanks for the nice words about the Borgeson box. I have one in my '74 and it really made a difference in the way it drives. Can't wait to see the car sometime.

Regards from Down Under.

Hey Guys with the coil overs....

It seems strange to me that the shock mount tabs in the lower control arm are strong enough to hold up the front end of the car? I understand how the spring pocket in the lower control arm can hold up to the spring pressure but it just seems that the shock absorber mounts points in the control arm would not be enough to hold up to the weight?

Has anyone seen any issues with stress or failures using the coil overs mounted to the shock mount as the only install point or do they come with some kind of insert to utilize the pocket for support?

Just wondering as I have never seen them close up.

Also, how does the upper portion mount in the upper frame pocket or is it relying on the upper shock mount as well to hold the weight of the car?
