Hey guys. I just purchased one of those "convenience consoles" and I'm a little disappointed. I'm not a fan of the lack of quality in the workmanship, but I can't really get around that and it's too much of a pain in the butt to send it back. The main thing I don't understand is that there are no hinges for the lid.
I've seen photos on here of some cars that have them. Have any of you guys that have them ever tried to add some hinges to the lid? It just seems goofy to me.
I never really looked but I didn't realized they just lifted off.
Not sure how convenient that would be trying to get something out of and put back on while on the move....
Mooser
Exactly. It doesn't really seem to hold on very well either. If you took a corner or two, it seems like it would be flying off. And it just seems unfinished looking to me. I haven't installed it yet, but I'm thinking I'm going to try and add some hinges as well as maybe a keyed locking mechanism before I do. I was just wondering if anyone had attempted to do anything like that already and how it turned out.
I clearly said I got it clearly off of ebay and clearly the photo on ebay didn't clearly show the lid clearly sitting off to the side, clearly. So, clearly, the insinuation is clearly not appreciated. Clearly, I acknowledge the lack of a hinge and I clearly was looking for a way to clearly remedy this. And clearly, I was looking for helpful responses of others who had clearly tried to add a hinge to the console. But I will clearly state, "thanks anyway."

I felt and still feel the same. That's a lot of $ for crap craftsmenship and design. Spent a ton of time thinking about adding a hinge reinforcing the whole thing with fiberglass adding a lock. In the end I realized that the company had fleeced me. I returned it and feel great about it to this day. Shame though 'cause if it was well thought out and manufactured it would have been great.
Thanks for posting this. I was planning on getting one as I complete my project. The cost of one of these over a stock is ridicouulous, redikou, ridicoolus,.....stupid!
I've got velcro holding mine down in the back. I cleaned both surfaces very well and the velcro stuck ok. It is enough to hold in place but also give when I want to remove it. That space is handy for storing small items or a big drink. I also used s/s harware to attach the console to the waterfall. It adds some bling in that black space. Having an armrest is handy.
I agree a hinge would have been nice. This is on my list of things to improve on the car.
The match of the colors is perfect. The flash on the camera makes them seem mismatched but they are not.
Well, sounds like velvet crochet it is. I'm thinking I'll figure something out for a lock and a piano hinge in the long run though. I agree with 7dSHARK. Basically, If you're looking to get one, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm more disappointed than I can express. Thanks for the replies.
