Is there anyone out there who reinforces the rear ends for 81s? I dont figure the stock aluminum will hold out for very long with 460hp and 490ftlbs twistings on 275's.
c3 sleeper, never mind mike ward. being a ***** is a hobby of his.Anyway A wise man can learn from a fool, so read what he says filter the BS and then the the last 10 percent might be usefull info. Just saying.... carry on,and nice build by the way.
I'm getting ready to put mine in within the next week or two. I hope it comes out as nice as this.
I was wondering how you are doing the air cleaner. It appears to be quite a bit above your hood line.
See I thought it would be as well but when I set the hood on to test it closed almost completely and when the nut was removed from the lid there were no issues so go figure. If it didn't fit I was going to go with an l88 and a fresh air chamber from ecklers.
Well folks it runs!!! 383c.i. of pure chevy power is a simple throttle cable bracket away from dropping down on the ground and going on the ground and going for a little test roll. Now there still is an issue i'm having with the rearend of the car having excessive movement when heavy throttle is applied. Im thinking a few missing shims in one of the trailing arms or perhaps a worn out bushing in that infamous aluminum batwing. Any suggestions from this point would be greatly appreciated and thanks for all the help i've gotten so far!
Heres a little video of her starting up for the second time. I know the sound is terrible but better video will come. This video is with headers on and no exhaust but later one will be uploaded with exhaust installed. When the engine warmed up it had a nice loping idle and sat on the temp gauge around 190 deg. New centerforce clutch has a unique pedal feel in that entering the clutch is a bit soft until you hit the meat of the springs at which point it disengages and engages in a very short pedal distance. This one is gonna be a bit grabby!
Nice. I like the vc's and air cleaner lid. That is sharp looking.
Contact Tracdogg2 for rearend help. He can work magic on the aluminum diffys as well as any other C3 set up. He is close also. In the DFW area.
How did you fair in the storms yesterday? Any damage? I live in Enid and work for OG&E we are working at power restoration, I am sure you won't get this until the power is back on, I hope you are OK. Nice upgrade by the way!! :O)
I actually live in Norman now as i'm attending OU but every weekend is spent at home working on the car. A few of our friends barns were blown away and I thank the lucky stars that months of my hard work didn't go down the tube in that manner!!! My family is all good with no losses in property of life though so we were lucky. Any idea when power will be back?

It may be tomorrow, but they are working fast. It took down a lot of poles, our Substation department where I work was out all night long and just got back in. Darlings Drilling west of town got smashed, lost trucks and all buildings and shop, my daughters Fiance works there, so I hope they get going quickly. When you get her back together I would like to see it, let me know when you will be in Enid, or I am always up for a road trip in the Vette! Stay Safe! Jeff
Ya Cody got hit pretty hard. One of his horses got picked up and moved about a half mile but didn't scuff him up to terrible. Windows got knocked out of his house too. Crazy that I just talked to him on Saturday.
I used to have an 81 with a similar HP 406 and it was a blast. It was hard on the T-10 and rear gears, rebuilt both. I ran 12.9 sec at 113mph with a 2.1 60' at Shannonville Motorsport park, sticky tires would have made a better time but that was taking a chance with the rear.
