77 windows
Today I was wiring my stereo and I removed the center shifter plate and the gauge cluster thing. When I finished wiring my stereo, after not removing anything else under the shift plate besides the cigarette lighter thing, my power windows wont respond anymore. Nothing at all. Now they're stuck down. Last time in the exact same situation this happened but I couldn't figure out what. Last time they randomly started working again after a day or so. Anyone have any ideas what this could be and how I could fix it? I was hoping to have the windows at least up so I could take it to class tomorrow.

I don't have power windows so I may be off base on this but is it possible that the ground for the lighter is also a ground for the power window switches? Just thinking that there might be some shared wiring between the lighter and the window switches.
Hope you figure it out,
Adam

My cigarette lighter wasn't working. I swapped it with a new one I got. Used the same ground, the power for it wasn't giving any power so I covered the exposed end with electrical tape to be safe, and I got power from my stereo.
Not sure what it was. I turned on my car, windows didn't work. Let my car warm up a bit(battery probably charged a bit) and my windows suddenly started working. Maybe it was a battery problem. Still seems odd to me since everything else worked and my voltage was at like around 9-12 when off and 12-14 when on, approximately.

Could be that the 30A circuit breaker in the fuse box gave up after 35 years. Get a new one at the parts store and give it a try. The "random reset" that you experienced earlier might have been a damaged breaker finally reconnecting.

That's right. I completely forgot about the breaker. I'll order a breaker from my local auto parts store and report back if it completely solves my problem. Thanks for the reminder batman.

Help, same problem. Now just have to figure out how to get old breaker out and new one it, weird looking clamps look as if this is not going to be easy to get the old one out. It has round clamps that look like it is almost a permanent install and not meant to ever come out!!! Any one experience this? Thanks for any info!

I believe those round clamp things stay on the circuit breaker. So like a black rectangular box 12V30A with two cylindrical glass-fuse style connectors.
Mine popped off like a regular fuse. Autozone has them on special order. Oreilleys doesn have them. Discount auto parts usually has them in stock. That's how I've seen it around my area. Hope this helps.
My breaker wouldn't reset for some odd reason until whenever it wanted to. I'm temporarily running a regular 30A fuse in it's place.

Was able to order relay and circuit breaker from Paragon. They had to special order the CB, but carried the relay, should have ordered both at same time. Two days on relay, CB one week.

Did you do any wiring around the fusebox during the installation? Are you sure the power window wire is still plugged into it.

Thanks for all of the help everyone, and the print outs on the electrical systerm and fuse box! Problems solved, wire put into the ign on fuse box, solved problem and windows now work. OK, so we have a new circuit breaker and relay, even if they were not the problem. While at it, I moved and taped wires so hopefully my foot won't catch on them as I think that may be what happened in the first place as there would not have been a need to removed the wiring. Finish up the brakes and hope to be on the road soon!
