I was fiddling with my gauges and disconnected the three-prong wiper switch without making absolutely certain how it was connected before I pulled it apart. Of course, it can reconnect both ways, and one of those ways ain't right. Can anyone tell me if the two light blue wires which share one contact goes closer to the driver's side or passenger's side? Another way to describe the harness connection is it has one side that's smooth- does the smooth side go up or down? I've checked all my books and cannot find enough detail. Thanks in advance.

I am currently doing some work on my windshield wiper system myself. I will let you know how my switch is connected later today!
I know (don't ask me how ) that if you connect it the wrong way, your wipers will only work if you push the washer in, and they will only work if you hold the washer in. It won't mess up any wiring or anything like that if you plug it in wrong. There is also a little tang looking thing that stick out of the back of the switch and a smaller square portion of the connector. The connectors smaller portion is connected opposite of the tang coming off the switch (again, don't ask me how I know ). A least this is the way it is on my 71. I thought the tang and the smaller square parts should be sort of a alignment gauge but it wasnt' (unless Bubba rewired my connector). Hope this helps.
