Well I went this morning to bleed the front brakes on the '78 because the pedal was feeling very bad - soft - squishy - the rears are good and solid.
So I pull off the front wheels and lo and behold the inside of the wheel on both front corners show the telltale signs of a blown seal as the back of each tire is heavily slathered in brake fluid.
Both of my front calipers are VB Heavy Duty O-ring calipers - they were installed in '97, my question is - Am I SOL on these guys or is there a warrantee from VB on them? Who would I talk to at VB about this?
Anybody have any other experiences with VB warrantee after so much time?
In MY dealings with VB over the years now, I have found them very helpful and easy to work with...they even tried a custom set of wheel adaptors that would not work out once....but without charge....
somehow, I"m sure they will work with you to straighten it out....
I"m sure there will be SOME cost though.....
they are a new sponsored dealer/supplier here though, just saw an addy...
I mentioned the forum to them last conversatiion...so maybe the guy actually kicked it upstairs...who knows???
Most calipers have a lifetime warranty!!!
I just purchased a set of front calipers form my 80' Duntov at DISCOUNT AUTO PARTS for $61 each... They come with a lifetime warranty...
I replaced all my calipers and master about the same time and have had two failed calipers. They did not come under the lifetime warranty and I had to wait quite a while to get my credit on the returned calpers, about 6 weeks. I found a lifetime warranty closer to home as VB are 3000 miles away and you end up with 20 -25 dollars in frieght with every one you ship back and returned to you.
Ive had very good luck with VBP. I ordered a set of heavy duty tie rod sleeves and one of them had a buggered up thread, but I didnt find that out till the car was on the lift getting an alignment, so. I had to go bye a reverse thread tap to fix it and VBP reembersed me the money for the tap. (I think it was close to the same price as the sleeves themselves) I thought it was increadible customer service. I BUY EVERYTHING I CAN FROM THEM NOW, and am confident that if there is a problem it will be handled fairly :D
I was taken care of by Paul Lesinski(not sure if hes still there as it was a few years ago but he was very helpful)
gp
I've had very good customer service from VB also. But I think the Zero Tolerance pistons are a superior product since the piston does not allow the seal to wobble in the sleeve and fail.
fauxrs,
Call VB and ask to talk with Paul Lesinski do NOT talk to anyone else!! Calmly explain your situation, mention your a member of the Corvette Forum and chances are he will "make it right" ...redvetracr

Thanks, I'll let everyone know what the outcome is - I've been trying Paul all day today (5 times so far) and he has been busy in one way or another - must be a busy guy. Hopefully can get this resolved.
I should make it clear that I am in no way dissappointed with the performance of these calipers - they have given me, until now, uninterrupted and flawless service, there are almost 60,000 miles on them since their installation.
Finally got through to Paul. They are going to exchange my blown out calipers for new ones, for the cost of refurbishing these ($39.95 ea.) after five years of flawless performance I find this totally acceptable, I expected to pay something after all. Certainly less than getting new ones so I am happy.
I have already been given the return authorization so they will go out this week.
