is there a stronger motor?
can these motors be "souped up"?

Just buy the current A/C Delco replacment.. It has more airflow. Not quite as much as some newer cars but enough to keep you cool. Make sure all of the doors are working properly.

check all of the connections for the vent lines . most need to be worked on or just taped up. should help alot.

A different blower motor won't help you enough to notice. The problem is the year of dirt and crud in the heater and A/C box, and the dirt that is plugging up the evaporator and heater core. They are what is restricting the airflow. Rebuild your heater box and clean everything up and you'll be in business. But don't do that until you have plenty of extra time. It takes awhile. :D

I had pretty weak air flow with the original blower. The new replacemant reallt helped.. They are made different inside. the old one has brushes. The new one is an induction motor. My evaporator was not plugged.

With the engine running, ascertain the alternator is putting out full voltage...around 14 or so with a/c on hi speed blower....
measure the voltage at the blower motor itself....directly from blower motor frame to input link of the motor itself...DO NOT TRUST ANY CONNECTOR TO NOT DROP VOLTAGE ACROSS IT......and or the crimp of the connector onto the wire...
or the relay, and of course make sure the ground lead drops no more than .2 volts across it's length.....I found over a VOLT drop in my motor grounding...which was 'good'....but much better with directly soldering a 10 ga wire to the motor grounding clip, star washer to clean steel of motor frame, and then direct to enging ground on intake manifold....
near zero drop then, and more blower speed....of course voltage drops in the positive feed wires are equally important.....

This post reminds me of why I love this group. My blower motor sucks. Because it doesn't blow.
I'll have to try the above. Up until now, the only way to increase airflow, was to drive faster.

If anyone does have the current GM number please post it. I would like to check on availability.
Thanks,
Gary

Why not buy Sanden 508 compressor...?

There was a post last year about replacing the rotor for an increase in air flow. The new design rotor had more blades and a steeper pitch on the blades. Someone was going to due a follow-up post, but I never saw it.
