Where can I buy one?The trans tunnel gets extremely hot on my 75 vert. The A/C and heater face plate gets almost to hot to touch.I was underneath the car last week and checked my heat schields all were intack including trans tunnel insulation.
It is a foam piece, semi-circular shaped, about one-inch square cross section which goes between the top side of the trans and body. I can't help you with a source though, sorry. ~Juliet
Bought mine from Dr. Rebuild. It made a HUGE difference in interior floor board temperature. I can now rest my leg on the transmission tunnel. To install you just push it in between the transmission and the body tunnel, no glue or anything. It is available from most Corvette part suppliers.

Here is an easy way:
At the top of the page, click on the 4th red tab from the left, "Restoration Store".
Click on the cleverly titled link that says:
"Enter the Restoration Store by clicking here"
From the list on the left side, select "ENGINE COMPARTMENT"
(you are getting close now!! :) )
The third diagram from the top is labeled "Underbody Insulation"
The "tunnel collar" is $15.
I'm very curious how to install this collar....Looks like not much space to get this collar up there from the top side or the bottom....Do you have to remove the trans to get it up there? Both my cars 7T9 and the 8T1 could use this collar.....Thanks in advance for the install info.... :seeya Cappy
According to my 76 AIM it was glued to the top of the auto. trans. using weatherstriping adheasive. I believe it was done before body was put on. You may be able to just wedge it in there without glue. The AIM also gives the proper measurements for placement of the collar.
