In case your bored, and if anyone is interested, here's how my project's progressed. The new custom grind Comp cam, Comp lifters, Trick Flow molly push rods, Comp split ratio roller tip rockers, Cloyes roller chain, hi-flow water pump, Protopline 180cc heads are installed. Performer EPS, 750 Holley, and Dynomax headers are next. I've repainted and installed the rad support, got new seals and air dam, had the rad boiled out and pressure tested. (OK)WHEW.. I lift weights to stay in shape, but that torque sequence for the heads is a WORKOUT!! I had to climb in the engine bay to get enough power behind the torque wrench during that last sequence. :nopity Things are moving along slowly for I study every aspect and analyze everything as I go. (no mistakes)
I took pics along the way and will post in sequence when my kid shows me how!! Thanks for reading.... wish me luck... I'm gonna need it come start up!! (two weeks and counting)
gdh: Well, lets just say I "hope" to drive it up in July. All depends on how well the carb linkage goes, if i can find a shop to do the exhaust system, and how much confidence I have in her for a long haul. If MM follows me up.. FOR SURE THEN!!! :D
ALWYN: If I wasn't so computer stupid.. I would have posted before and after pics for you already. I've been away from the forum for a while due to a location change in my job. (bosses are always watching) and evenings are spent with my boy or my girl (silvia). How's your car coming along? I finally rebuilt that leaky pwr strg cylinder and valve. Messy and time consuming... but not hard. Painted them too....(silver por-15) oh so purdy!! Hope to hear from ya soon!!
Eddie
Sounds Great! I'm right there with you on this one, but not as far along. Currently, I'm in the stages of detailing, sandblasting, cleaning, whatever, the engine bay. I'm also rebuilding the front end, which is more cleaning, sandblasting, torching, pressing, painting, etc. etc etc and so on. This week, I'll mic the crank, order my parts, get them to the machinist, and then, whatever.
So let's fight the good fight. Great luck with yours!
Silvr77,
I'm bored, so good post  Looks like you're going for it, hope it all works out (I was a bag of nerves when I 1st started mine up!).
Rad support tip: after getting mine powder coated it was obvious that the paint hadn't got right down inside the frame, so I squirted Waxoyl down the gaps. The plan was that when the frame warmed up then the Waxoyl would flow right down inside & protect it all. Funnily enough, that is exactly what happened (sometimes my plans don't work out quite as I expect them to ;) ).
As for working out, try this - lie underneath while holding the flex plate to stop the engine turning. Then use a torque wrench with a short handle to tighten the damper bolt to 80 lb/ft (using your spare(?!) hand to make sure the Jack stand doesn't move). That'll get yer pecs. complaining :)
Good move taking it slow, attention to detail is what really counts, but does that 2 week timescale also allow at least 2 days to fit the darn exhaust system? :smash: :mad
More wt. lifting rec.! Since the headers point down some, when you connect the ex., you can do a slight upturn to make the ex. level in the largest part of the reducers.
Joe: Your project sounds great! I contemplated doing the same with the front end, but just didn't want the car up on stands for another 3 months. (next winter I'll attack the front). All the luck with your project
Paul: Good tip about Waxoil..thanks man. I know what you mean about the crank bolt..WHEW..my anchor hand still hurts!! I'm going to take it to a shop to have the exhaust mandral bent and installed, so I'll dodge the pleasure of eating rusty pipes..
Ganey: Thanks for the exhaust tip... I will pass it on to the shop that will install for me. Hope this baby runs like MMotor and I think it will!! Quick question for you. Push rods are 7.9 (recomended .100 over stock by ProTopline) The comp roller tip rocker clear the edge of the spring retainers by only about .024-.028 when 1/2 turn is applied after zero lash. It was very, very difficult to get a socket on the adjusting nut. Roller sits just fine on valve tip. Do you think the push rods are too short? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Boss coming... logging off :mad :mad :mad
WHAT ! your not bending the exhaust pipes by Hand?
  Sorry.. no big red "S" on my chest. :jester I still have some linkage and accesory issues to be worked out with the new carb.. so the fire date is still in two weeks, but the drivable date could be late June...
How's your ride comming? EM me!!!
So where are the Darn pics??? How much is ur exhaust costing?? Do ya have a good source...I am still putting mine off
Alwyn: Pics soon. I haven't even gotten that far yet. I have a number to call to a local exhaust shop.. but I'm weeks away from even calling for an estamate. I have Flowmasters, so they just have to bend and install the pipe and weld in a crossover with a flange..... :D

That is plenty. To determine the correct length PR you want to roll the motor over by hand with the pushrods adjusted and watch to ensure that the roller tip is staying centered in the valve stem. It will vary around center across the tip durring it's travel.

Yeah my quote for that was 250 bucks :D So I have yet to do it
$250 !!  wow...
I got mine done, he installed my mufflers (manza's), bent the plumbing and made a custom crossover after the tranny for $140. Now I am glad I paid that price...
top quality too !
