Hey guys (and gals)...
1975 automatic... trying to get the heating system squared away. I rebuilt the thumb wheel and control panel, and am testing the unit prior to re-assembly. The switch is also new. When the switch is in the left most position (off) the fan blows at a slow speed. As I move the switch to the right, the fan speed increases as it should, until I get to High. Then the fan shuts off. I checked the 30A fuse (the only one I could find in the engine compartment) and it is fine. Is there any way to test the relay prior to ordering one? I hate to replace parts if I am not sure if it will correct the issue. Thanks.
Thanks Easy Mike. I "tested" the resistor by swapping it with another one (of unknown quality) and it acts the same way. i did notice though, that the springs get really hot on these, as indicated by the lack of skin remaining on my finger. Is there a more technical way to test other than "plug it in and see if it works, then grab the hot springs and proceed to burn oneself". I still dont understand why it blows a little when in the off position.
After some ore research, I tested the orange wire at the relay...and its dead. I checked the fuse, and its fine. I check for continuity between the fuse and the orange wire, and there is none. I peeled back some of the wire loom to find the other end of my orange wire about 3 inches in. Previous owner must have cut it for some reason, but I have no idea where the other end is. Does it go to battery power?
