Anyone ever?
As I'm putting in the new engine, I don't figure the hood will fit with out choking it by running a 2" element at best, so what I was thinking was either buy a new hood to clear or cut a hole in the current hood for the air cleaner to clear & maybe at a latter date, either one of ecklers high rise hood attachments or a scoop. I've seen pictures on cf before with the filter element protruding from the hood looks ok. So what I'm asking is for pictures, pro's/ cons, input negative or positive let's here what you think with an intelligent reason. Thank you in advance!

Have you tried a drop base air cleaner?
Hole in the hood you get fresh cool air but driving in rain forget it..car wash gotta be careful. not to mention kids wanting to mess with it or drop something down your carb.

Yeah I've got a drop base on it and haven't actually tried the hood yet, but tried the drop base when I did the top end on the l48 and it was real tight with the two inch filter and the action plus, at first tried with the air gap but the hood wouldn't close. On my Harley I have a vortex sleeve on my exposed air filter, it works well in the rain, but don't know if anything of the sort is made for a 14"x4" or large air cleaner.
