I'm wondering whether there is any information published somewhere on the exhaust pipe components needed for custom building a dual exhaust with x-pipe for a C3? We are doing a custom build and it would save some of our time if somebody has already published what he used.

Thanks!
I dont know of any publications even though there would be plenty out there but its an exhaust. With headers,x-pipe and mufflers there is only so many ways you can do it and its dependent on the your motor and in a C3,s case that could be anything depending on how modified it is so tell us about yours.
Im sure someone will give you a few write-ups or at least their experience.
I started with a complete dual exhaust system from Corvette Central. I like the way it has all the little crimps and tweaks to fit up tight like the original exhaust. I them modified it by cutting and welding some mandrel bent tubing to fit it around the 700R-4 and into the headers. I also added a balance tube between the two sides to mellow out the sound. I think I've got about $400 in the whole system.
Thanks for the replies, fellas! MN80Vette, your photos were really helpful, I'm using them right now to get the necessary parts. We're beginning the build tomorrow morning.
I decided about the mufflers that I won't need any Anybody using straight pipes with x-pipe here? I think the 350 engine won't suffer in power terms if we do that or what do you think?
I just don't want to ruin the real sound of the engine, I've never found a muffler yet which is able to keep that sound the way I like.

I'm glad that helped. FYI, the parts you need to start things right are the Hedman header extenders.
You should be able to identify the rest of the parts from the pictures. The trickiest parts were the two 45 deg bends (times 2 for both sides) to get up to the mufflers. The rest is pretty straight forward. The flanges behind the X-pipe are optional but recommended, especially if you are undecided about mufflers. The rear flanges also leave the option open for electric cut-outs in the future.
