Default 1980 air conditioner problem

I have a 1980 Corvette. I have been having air conditioner problems. I checked that computer and the book and they both show that the black wire on the compressor is the ground. The black wire on mine is hot. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Without checking a wiring diagram, I have to assume you have the air conditioning turned on. This will make the ground appear to be hot, for obvious reasons.

If you use a volt meter and measure (with the ac on) the black wire to ground, do you get 12 volts dc? If so, the black wire is hot, however I don't know if that's the way it is suppose to be.

What type of AC problems are you having?

The compressor isn't working. I checked the book and the black wire is suppose to be the ground and the green wire is suppose to be hot. I checked them and the black wire is hot and the green one isn't.

I would look back along the AC wiring to see if Bubba may have made some repairs.

Green should be hot; black should be ground.

The #1 cause for the compressor not engaging is low refridgeration pressure. It will not turn on with low pressure unless you bypass the low pressure sensor.
