Re: How many different rattles does your car have? (gerry72)
I took the wife for a ride, she was trying to hold down everything that was rattleing on her side, she quickly ran out of hands, elbows, knees...and patience :smash:

1 - just noticed it this weekend. Like a dumbazz, I removed the rear window, which appeared to have never been out since leaving the factory in 1971. Now it rattles :yesnod:  :smash: :smash: :cry

Yeah, I've got an annoying rattle from that covering panel just below the rear window. That whole area hasn't ever seemed to fit right. The kick panels seem to push out (towards the doors) too far and it leaves a gap between the panels. I've even tried folding and stuffing those black floatie looking things behind the panels. Gets really annoying at about 70 mph. :mad

It depends on the road I am driving on! :) I have kind of a squeaky noise that comes with bumps at about 20mph that I think might be the exhaust. I think I need a lube job! :) MJ
Re: How many different rattles does your car have? (Pete Z)
I had no rattles, until I rebuilt my muncie tranny. Now I'm getting a rattle from the gear shift...probably one of the clips. A vette only shop (Corvette World in Rancho Cordova CA) rebuilt both my rear control arms and now it sounds like an 18 wheeler when I hit a bump (they carry chains for each wheel under the chassis). Recently I gained a rattle from installing the rear bumper center support brace...if is a triangular cross-sectioned part that bolts down to the rear bumper support frame and pushes against the rear bumper...I'm sure it's the center bolt which was stripped out before I even got to it. Apparently the shop that painted the car 12 years ago removed the bumpers and stripped the bolt when reinstalling...and it's where I can't get a drill to enlarge the hole, so I suppose it will have to be pulled and I'll have to rely on the other two bolts to hold it in place.
Re: How many different rattles does your car have? (inferno-vette)
I've got a rattle in the front end of my '81. The problem is sometimes I can hear it and sometimes I can't. I've inspected the whole undercarriage and even replaced many of the rubber suspension bushings but no luck. The only fix I've found is good, loud rock or R&B music. Works every time.

My 77 has always been tight. There have been some adj. along the way.
73 up has the better body mount bushings specially designed per Duntov to be better & not hurt handling.
Will help eliminate the creaks some complain about in the early models. As I recall, Allan 71 has done it.
