timing adjustment?
ok guys got a question here for ya....the motor in my 79 vette is just a plain old GMC crate 350 motor. I have seen many threads here about timing adjustments and what i would like to know is are those adjustments for the original motors in the vettes or would those same settings be for my crate motor with only 6000 miles on it?

dyno tuning these engines takes a special tuner though. Most of these guys now only know how to plug it into the laptop. A guy that really knows his distributor ignition curve setup and carb tweaking that works in a modern shop with a chassis dyno is getting increasingly hard to find. If your mechanically inclined Lars papers on timing setup, vacumn cans and fine tuning the different carb setups would be the way I would go. You will also learn a lot from doing it yourself and there is a great sense of satisfaction that you get when you take it for that first ride after you got it dialed in exactly right in the garage and it feels like you just threw a 150 NOS shot on it compared to how it was. If your not that guy take a visit to the local strip or track and ask around for a good street tuner. The guys at the track are usually a pretty tight knit group and everyone knows the guys that do it right.

Its usually a dyno fee + hourly for tune as req'd. Locally, its generally about $300 unless thing are seriously screwed up.
Yeah, I'm lucky - the local place can do everything QJets to wild LS builds. They have shelves piled with QJets...
