Default 82 speedometer cable

Does anyone no how to get to the speedometer cable where it screws into the trans. I can just reach it with my hands but there is no way I can get any tool on it. The exhaust and crossmember are in the way.

Thanks

Can you get a small channel lock on it to break it loose and then use your hand the rest of the way. I had mine off to change the driven gear and don't remember having any trouble. Don't remember what tool I used.

I was just working from off the floor. (Not Jack up) I can't see gaining any room with car lifted up. With that all being said I tried channel locks just don't fit. Wonder how hard it into drop the cross member.

you can reach it by hand but a pair of long nose pliers helps to loosen up .

Has your car been modified? Why is your exhaust on the drivers side? A small pair of channel locks should reach. If not you'll have to drop the exhaust.

I ended up having to drop the cross member because I broke the original plastic speedo output gear housing when trying to loosen the cable. Replaced the housing with an aluminum one. Was replacing exhaust with true duals anyway, so it was also out of the way. My biggest problem was getting the broken housing off.
