Default Questions about getting a new cam

I know i've been picking all your brains now that i have a running car. I'm wondering what would be a good cam for an L48? I've also been told i need to upgrade the valve springs as well? Would I be better off with roller rockers? More info would be greatly appreciated.

Call the cam compinies and talk with their customer service people. They can tell you exactly what you need based on what you have and what you want of of the car.

The comp XE-262 is a good safe pick.

Some cams you HAVE to change the springs and some You dont...depending on Lift. Didnt have to on my 260H and after 5K miles all is well.....knock on wood..... :jester . Believe max lift w/stock springs is abt .460 or so

I'm hoping I don't have to do it, otherwise it's going to be a pain in the butt and expensive. I don't want anything too radical, just something that'll make a difference in performance.

I got the 268h cam and didn't have to change springs either. Though now I have the Alum heads on and they came with springs.

What is the difference between the 260, 268 and 262?

not sure exactly. I think the 260 has more tq but 268 gives more hp. I could be wrong though. Hopefully someone more knowledgable will pipe in.

I installed the 268h cam with a Edelbrock Performer intake, and used the old springs . So far so good, lots of power good performance, i'm thinking about new heads for next winter's project though... It just never ends... probably should just go for the zz4.

 that's exactly what i've been telling myself now that i'm $3300 into my car project. I could have picked up a ZZ4 from GM Parts Direct for $3500, ohh well. The 350 is a good block and I can always make it as powerful as a ZZ4 I bet.

Believe I said that abt .460 was max lift for stock springs. My CompCam 260H has a max lift of .440. It was recommended to me by Comp Cams w/a strong 2nd by Ganey, mostly because I have an Auto Trans. It pulls STRONG (compared to Stock) from a standing start, and is good out to 5K or so.....others will argue but I really dont see how ya need much more than that for the street....................... :D :D :D

I emailed CompCams and they sent me a recommendation for everything I need. I told them that I wanted the most horsepower from my L48 without sacraficing safety, and without causing it to idle rough. I was recommended the High Energy 268H or the Magnum 270H, and was told that I DO need to get new springs for either of these cams.

Here's is the thread where I posted it:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=286772

Goto CompCams at http://www.compcams.com and follow the link to online cam recommendations...it's a form that you fill out describing the engine and current cam and such, plus what you will be using it for.
