I need to replace the hose assembly on my 72. Unfortunatly new replacements are in the $150 range. I sure hate to spend that kind of cash on AC hoses. Unfortunatley its not just the hose, but one of the aluminum ends the hose goes into is snapped into, thus the reason I wanted to replace the whole piece.
So are there any cheaper alternatives...will a later style hose set hook up to a 72 compressor? It sure seems like a lot of this stuff is generic to all GM vehicles in that time era...just seems like there has to be a cheaper alternative than the $150 replacements Zip and Ecklers advertise.
That's the piece I'm referring too. I know squat about AC...but starting to learn a little. I'm in the process of replacing the hoses, poa and expansion valves, and blower motor. Compressor was recently rebuilt..so should be good there.
Thanks....the size of the GULP is going down. I'm not cheap, but $150+ for some alum and rubber sounds ridiculous to me....appears they're not made by anyone any more...so the price is going up quite a bit.
You need go to a GOOD locak a/c shop, all those fittings and sleeves are available ....and get a set made up....off the shelf items are long since NLA...but any GOOD a/c shop...maybe one that does hot rods even...is capable of making up any damn hose in existance....crimped and all...all it is is a press with dies in it....no big deal....get them made up for about 60 bux tops....
If you have trouble finding a shop to make the hoses, let me know. I picked up a business card from a guy at the last FTW Rod and Custom show and he said they can make custom hose sets.
I found a place in Garland, TX right close to me. Place is called Hose-Fast. Anyway guy says it'll probably run between $30-40. Even if its more...big improvement over the parts suppliers (I did find one in an Oreillys database listed at $35, unfortunatley they didn't have it in stock any longer and GM doesn't make um...but that just give you an idea of the markup that goes on some of these parts :rolleyes). http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=...r:regT:1:fbT:0
