The horn doesn't work on my 73 corvette. The horn button(cover on steering wheel) was off ever since I bought it. Now that I have a GM replacement I would like to get it working. I really think I can figure it out if someone can post a drawing or diagram of what it is supposed to look like. I realize it is after all just a 12 volt switch, but to see what is supposed to make contact would be a big help. It has the tilt, tele wheel. Thanks in advance.

You may be missing other components than the horn button. The horn should work if you press down on the piece the button attaches to. post a pic of what the assembly looks like now and that will provide a better idea of what the problem is.
You can also check to make sure that you indeed have a horn on the front of the car, and check that there is votage/ground to the connections.
If your horn is MIA you can get a dual-note horn from a 90's Pontiac really inexpensively from the junkyard and fab a bracket for it. It will be a lot louder and better sounding than the original.
Thanks. I was wondering if anything was missing myself. I believe I saw the "contact shims" in with the small box of old parts that came with the car. I did find a exploded view of a steering column but for a newer corvette. I don't know if they are the same or a little different. Never have taken one apart before I have no way of knowing if anything is missing. I have a feeling one little thing is missing or installed incorrectly so not to complete the circuit
