It's a .015 compressed thickness, 4.10" diameter rubber coated steel shim head gasket.
I haven't actually used this gasket yet but I'm going to use them on my new 331 with Pro-Filer aluminum heads. As such, I can't speak to durability directly but I have read during my research of more than one person having them in the car with aluminum heads/iron block for more than 3 years with no issues. That's good enough for me as my car might see 1000 miles per year.
As far as alternates, I could not find a thinner gasket for my application to get my squish where I need it with the stock deck height.
Although not required, I am going to give them a coat of Permatex Copper before I install mine. Only possible issue I've heard is the deck and head mating surface have a smooth machined surface. My deck has stock machining hence the reason I'm using the Copper spray to help fill any minor imperfections but I really don't see any issue given the gasket is rubber coated.
that's what i was wondering. years ago i used copper coat and was wondering with the new rubber if it was necessary. I'm going use it on iron heads to help compression. the more things change the more they stay the same.
