What's wrong with 14V?
You need 'bout 14V to charge. Make sure you have the alt tested first.
Something you should note is that a 12V lead acid batt is actually something 13.2V fully charged. So you need that 14V from the alt to force electrons back into the batt - need greater potential to make it charge. I wouldn't want much more than 14V though.
I have a cheap Hobo Fake batt tester that also measures voltage so i can see the voltage with engine on and off. I want to see at least another volt or more with the engine running to verify alt is pushing out current/electrons back to the batt.
