OK, finally down to the body of the 75 restore. Front and rear bumpers need to be replaced. Don't want to do any body work to fenders or panels, the are in perfect shape. Can't deside between TrueFlex or Urethane. Was told that FrueFlex does not fit and you have to do bodywork to get the correct fix. Urethane is a better choice to make sides or top fit due to ability to push/pull to fit. Does anyone have any experiece, pics of install on both? What would you pick and why? Thanks
I bought trueflex for my '75 and they did not line up very well. Im not a body guy so i sold the and went with urethane. Much simpler to install (for me) with no bodywork. The front is a bit tricky.
The people who make the True fit Bumpers don't even like them. The only reason they do it because people want to buy them and if they don't make them You will buy them from somebody else. So its Fiberglass or Urathane. The end result will be better with Fiberglass but the amount of work to fit them is more work than you think.
I have very few problems with the Tru-Flex bumpers. I have personally installed them for over 15 years (I can’t do it anymore). I did this write up a few years back on the forum and I think it will be an interesting read for you.
I did a write up about the fiberglass/flexy glass bumpers a few years ago.
Yes I've installed them and yes some fit better than others... But... the one constant in the bumpers is the mold!
I have been keeping pictures and notes here from cars with variances that were factory installed. Below is a post link that I did over two years ago about this exact same question.
In short.. I don't think I ever installed a fiberglass bumper or a flexy glass bumper without doing work on either the car or the bumper cover, it's just not going to happen.
In the same note I will also say I've never installed a urethane bumper that fit exact and for sure didn't have waves in it. I can say I have never installed a urethane bumper cover that looked the way I felt the car should have looked when they were produced. With the Urethane covers you get waves and poor fitment and you have to live with it. With the Flexy covers you can tweak them and they will fit.
Here is what I posted.. and here is the link on our site.
I just had my car repainted, replaced both front and rear with fiberglass. Rear matched right up. Front needed some body work done to it, but also had to replace left front fender because of repairs not done correctly to it, before I owned the car(over 35 years now). I really like the fiberglass bumpers over the original ones! And they are the same color as the body, where with the urethane, you have to add the additive to the paint, which changes the color slightly.
