Yesterday - when I fixed up my wipers - I also changed the temperature sensor. I was using a 68 Vette temperature sensor with the Autometer Phantom gauges (because I destroyed the sensor that came with the gauge).
I always thought that the readings with the 68 sensor were accurate... However - I was wrong. When showing 180 - the temperature was actually 165 and when showing 195 it was actually 180. I drove today through very heavy traffic and the temperature never went above 175 degrees (measured in the intake - which indicates a temperature of approx. 160 degrees in the heads... I think that I am running too cool.. I might change my thermostat. Currently I use a High Flow 160 degree thermostat. I might change it to a 180 degree thermostat...

Oliver,
I'm curious---what senser are you using now??
and how do you know if the current reading is accurate, or if the prior readings
were inaccurate

I am using the correct sensor for the Autometer gauge. (I ordered it from SUMMIT). It is the 100% correct sensor!

How well does those highlights work on that Grand Sport? They look GREAT!! :D
They work excellent. There is not much difference to regular Vette headlights... Especially the High Beams are very strong!!! I actually have to adjust my headlights because I recently had the front end (including shocks and springs) rebuilt. This raised the front of my Vette by 1+ inch...
Re: Changed temperature sensors yesterday... (GrandSportC3)
Was the autometer sensor the same size as the 68? The reason I ask is I need to find a sensor that is much smaller than the 70 one to fit the LS-1 heads. I don't mind drilling out the hole a little, but I don't want to double its size.

The sensor itself is very small. It comes with two adapters to fit almost any application!
