Default Gentlemen i need your input on this

well its time to do a bunch of work and spend a pile of cash and i need your help on what parts you would buy and from where
im going to be doing this next week
a friend of mine owns a garage and he is getting my transmission rebuilt for me for 700 bucks
while its there its time so im going to have him do a complete tune up on on my car also "71 350/270 "
my carb need to be rebuilt im sure but im going to have to wait on that and find someone to send it off to that can do it "i think the carb guru i heard of on here is named lars"
in the mean time i was thinking ide buy this one from ecklers
http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1971-1972.html

has anyone bought one of these is it worth it or is it junk ?

the other thing i was going to get was this tuneup kit from ecklers also
http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1971-1974.html

is this what i want or is there something else that i want to get
the ONLY reason i was going to get these things from them is i have to drive past there to get to my friends garage
if theres something else i need please let me know

thanks guys

I'm sure Lar's would tell you the carb from any mass rebuilder is junk including the Eckers one. Have you looked at a 4175 series Holley, they are a direct replacement for a Quad. I dont think there is anything special about Ecklers tuneup kit, you can get the same parts from a local parts store, probably cheaper.

Have you considered doing it yourself? The book and a rebuild kit saves you the wait.

While that transmission is out make sure you have the insulation piece for the tunnel and collar for the bell housing in place. Be a good time to look at the positive battery cable as well.

As mentioned, try the rebuild yourself with one of the carb books. It's not that hard. Good luck!

Certainly nothing anyone can't tackle with a good book and the right parts. Bushing the throttle shaft is the big thing...along with the parts/know-how to tune.

Here are expert rebuilders (in addition to Lars Grimsrud who you can contact via the Forum) AND a source for the parts/books you'll need:

Sean Murphy Induction

Cliff Ruggles

There is a fiberglass insulation that fits in the transmission tunnel. Very easy to replace with the trans out a nightmare with the trans in place. Look at one of the supporting vendor online catalogs. The collar is a foam type (horse shoe shaped) that keeps heat from running up the tunnel. About fifty dollars for both.

Yes, Yes and yes if they are there (and they should be) you can reuse them. The little tabs just poke through the insulation and bend over to hold the insulation in place.

You don't seem to be a big fan of punctuation, either. Anyway, you can get the tune up stuff quite a bit cheaper at an auto perts store, as has already been mentioned, get a new fuel filter while you're at it.
