Default What size steering wheel nut?

I have to replace a ignition cylinder lock. The car is a 1980. It's about 20 miles from where I live so I'll have to transport some tools. I want to know what size nut is the steering wheel nut? Or will a Crescent wrench work? I don't want to bring every socket I own. Thanks

3/4" and up should suffice.

My 76 uses a 7/8 nut. I used a six point long socket with a 3" extension.

A crescent wrench would probably round the nut.

1980 might be Metric.

For the record it's 21mm or 13/16.

Crescent wrench? You would be better off with vise-grips...
Don't forget to bring your steering wheel puller and lock plate press,as well as some of your Torx screwdrivers!

Unless someone replaced it, I didn't have a Torx screw in there. Also the regular lockplate tool didn't work because my telescoping shaft doesn't lock down due to someone removing the associated hardware.

I did get the job done and towed the car to my house. It's sitting safely in the driveway ready for a restore.
