Tomorrow I'll try to check and see if I have any vacuum leaks. Still figuring out my headlights, might be the actuators. And for the idle screws, lars rebuilt and tuned my carb and now my car is running better than ever. So I don't really want to mess with anything on the carb. I really liked his work and how he gave me my carb.
Even Lars will tell you that no matter how well He sets up a carb, it'll still need a little final tweaking once it's on the engine, especially since you are making changes to the timing. (well, actually, I shouldn't put words in His mouth, let's just say that I think that He would agree with me.) Don't be afraid to play with the idle screws. Here's what ya do: screw them all the way in, till they gently seat, counting how many turns it takes to do so. Write this number down somewhere. Then, turn them back out that same number of turns, and start your adjustments. If you get it all out of whack, you can always screw them all the way in, and then back out that number of turns, and get it right back to where they are right now. So don't be scared!
BTW, here is a good video that tells you some of the many ways a vacuum gauge can be used to tune or diagnose an engine. It also teaches a little about how vacuum actually works and what it is. Enjoy!
Awesome thanks Scott. I just saw the video and several others related to it. Learned quite a bit from that alone.
Carbs and ignition timing can seem mysterious and complicated, but if you spend a little time learning what makes them work, you will find that they are not really as complicated as they may seem. There are lots and lots of videos on you tube, and articles on the internet, on the principles of how a carb works. And I specifically say a carb, because they all work on the same principle: differential pressure. If you understand that, you can mess around with just about any carb.
