Default Steering Knuckle Arms

Good Morning,

I was curious if anyone knows if there is a difference in the steering knuckle arms between a 63-68 and a 69-82. It looks as if they are different part numbers. I have a 65 and am trying to get larger wheels (more backspacing) under the car. I can only run 4 3/4 backspacing although friends with 69 - 72 cars are running 5+ backspacing on their wheels. The only thing I can determine is that their steering knuckle arms must be bent more towards the enginee bay.

Does anyone know? If they are different, I'm in the market for a set if anyone has any for sale.

Thanks,
Scott

If your talking about the steering arms I believe the difference is in the size of the mounting holes 65-67 took a smaller (7/16" I think) bolt while 68 and up took a larger (1/2" I think) bolt. If your talking about the knuckle (aka the spindle) 65-68 takes smaller bearings (in addition to the above) than the 69 and up spindle. I have some extra 69+up spindle assemblies if you or anyone else in interested, considering GM went to larger parts when they went to 8.5" wheels the 69+ up spindle assemblies are a good upgrade...

I'm asking about the angle of the arm. My limiting factor is the steering knuckle arm as it is less than a finger width from the back of the wheel. The 69+ cars that I have looked at have way more backspacing and still have 2+ fingers b/t the back of the wheel and the steering knuckle arm. I'm aware of the bigger spindle although my issue is wheel clearance. There is something dramatically different as there is more than an inch difference in clearance. I don't want to order/buy new arms if that isn't the difference - I can't see or think of what else the difference would be. I looked at a vendors site and they said their steering knuckle arms are correct for 69 - 82 although would work on 63 - 68. My guess is the angle of the arm is different although wanted to verify if anyone knew before ordering.

I have extra steering arms but mine are all 69-82, 69 arms take the larger bolts, you would have to drill your spindles and caliper brackets to use them and I don`t think the spindle is wide enough.
