Default Quartz clock conversion

Has anyone done the clock conversion? I was wondering how hard of a job it is to do. Do you just put in new clock guts? Thanks

I did one on a 65 clock awhile back. Very easy to do. Size of clock face may be different but I'm sure its just as easy on the smaller faced clocks

i have in my '72, took about 1hr, nothing tricky, basic tools.
it took longer to get the center console out than the swap over took.
my kit came from ebay with a rebuild video dvd, watched it couple of times first.
you re-use the hands and face, and just replace the moving mechinism.

Easy job for me. You'll probably have to give the minute wheel some WD40 to free up the clutch mechanism.

I replaced the OEM with a quartz from Ecklers in about 1980 cost about $50.00 back then. It still runs and keeps good time.

Go easy when straightening out the taps holding everything together.
Mine had been apart a few times before and the taps were never designed to be "re-used" so they get pretty weak
Only straightne them enough to get it apart, don't try to bring them all the way straight, Same thing goes putting it back, just fold them enough to hold everything

Did my '79 20 years ago. Walk in the park and the clock still keeps perfect time.

My kit from Ebay came today. After watching the DVD I did the clock conversion. It was one of the easier projects that I've done lately. Thanks everyone!

Easy! Now you've jinxed it and will have to re-install the clock through the windshield defrost slot as punishment

It's now working, keeps time, draws way less power, and if anyone starts giving you grief about it sweeping instead of ticking just tell them to blink their eyes every second and it'll look just fine

Just wondering guys. Is it possible to remove the clock assembly from the driver's side footwell instead of removing the centre console?

Agreed, unless you're Mr. Fantastic, you may have a chance then but you still won't have any clue what you're doing.

You have to take the circuit overlay off the back of the setup (a few little... I wanna say 7/32" nuts), and some other stuff I can't remember. Taking the clock out and apart is a lot easier for me to figure out than getting the center console out, though.

Yeh, you also have to pop a few bulbs out so the circut overlay has enough slack to allow the clock to come out. Pulling apart your console is a pita but at least it gives you the chance to clean all the dust out of your guages and the inside of the lens and pop some new led bulbs in to freshen it up. Its amazing how great your guage cluster looks when its clean on the inside!

Of course.....sorry fellas, forgot about the overlay. I did my shifter console replacement this winter. I remember before putting the side carpeted pieces back on, that when I was verifying the fit from my perspective in the driver's side footwell, it looked do-able. Thanks for the clarification.
