I've had the Keith Black's in my Z28's 420HP 383 with 10.5:1 CR for the past two years. I have had no problems. I think that in terms of quality/price, they are a good product.
What's the difference from one hyperutectic to another?
I think like anything else. Quality of material and workmanship
What about other manufacturers?
This I have no experience with. Maybe someone else can chime in who's had experience with others. Ithnk the KB's are a pretty good product for the price though.
Re: What does "HYPERUTECTIC Pistons" mean? (GrandSportC3)
Speed-Pro (aka TRW) also has a nice selection of hypereutectic pistons for most popular engines ... I have a set w/ coated skirts ... quite pleased. Prices tend to be a bit less than KB.
Re: What does "HYPERUTECTIC Pistons" mean? (GrandSportC3)
I've always understood the hyperutectic pistons as being made with an alloy that provides for a great compromise between the sealing properties of cast pistons and the near strength of forged pistons. Forged pistons are great, but you get that cold knock. Cast pistons are fairly tight (no knock), but they aren't as strong.
With hyperutectic pistons, you can run real tight tolerances. Plus, I believe the Keith Black hp's and others are treated with anti friction coatings on the skirts.
Hope this helps. Now I'm going to read the links to see if I was right...

Good to know that Hyperutectic Pistons are good. The engine I recently purchased comes with Speedpro (TRW) Hyperutectic Pistons!!!
