Default Need Cam Help

Greetings All,
So I've been slowly working on my car, haven't driven it allot been too busy fixing $h!t. So at this point I have redone the entire front and rear suspension, I have changed to 3.70 gears, and will eventually install the 200r4 that's in the garage (I'm trying not to change too many things at one time, lol). The history on the car is that I don't have a ton of history, I was told the engine was a fresh parts store 300 horse crate and there is evidence on the outside that it could be fresh (I understand no way to know without pulling heads or pan but I'm not gonna), so Ill be getting fuel injection installed soon, and then switching the old v-groove pullies for a serpentine setup I have, which got me to thinking, while the intake and water pump is off why not add a cam.

So here's the question, I don't have allot of experience with SBC, had several LS1's, but for this car I wanted to keep the SBC. With that said, my guess is the motor is in the 9:1ish compression range. What kind of cam would give me a touch more power, have some audible lope, and interact well with the fuel injection?

I dont want to get out of control, have a car that barely runs etc... Id like to add a few ponies, and get some classic muscle car sound. Figured since the engine would be partially torn down it would be an easy add for right now. Perhaps heads at a later date for some real performance.

so I've said allot any personal experiences or something someone can recommend or had experience with.
Thanks
Ed

Can you pull a valve cover and share the casting numbers for the heads?

... also what intake, size headers, carb, ignition, gears, what stall speed does the 200r4's converter have, etc? These things will help the cam experts like billla help you decide on a cam.

IMO, if its a 300HP crate, you'll probably benefit from things that help it breath more than you would a cam out to start out with. Gearing will have a big effect on how the car feels too, and the 4spd auto you're putting in will put a smile on your face straight away

Ill pull the valve covers at some point to get the casting #'s for you.

the car will be converted to fuel injection, I am going to convert a LT1 (think 90's not 60's) intake to work for this, and use the stock size injectors. The FI setup will control the spark, no dist, stall speed is 18-2000rpm, 370 rear gears.

thanks
Ed

I can't imagine going to the effort to do the FI conversion using the LT1 stuff on a GEN I, but it's your build

They dont flow that horrible I would think that intake flows more than the heads do, the conversion isnt all that bad, and I already have one. Made the decision a bit easier.
