Two issues: Tach broke and heater stays on
Well, I'm going to go look at a very nice '79 L-82 4speed for $9300 but the tachometer is broke, I don't know much more than this, but what can cause it to break? Just the gear off the distributor, or can it be something less costly? The other problem is that heat stays on all the time, but it is only on low. The owner said that it is probably a bad ground somewhere. I figure if I can't fix it, I'll just disconnect it. I'm one of the most cold blooded people anyway. I keep my house at 60 in the winter and I'm comfortable :D But who would need heat in a summer vehicle only anyway?
Any suggestions welcome, just trying to guage difficulty of fix. Oh, and how much does a new compresser cost about?

The tach is electric. It could be anything from a disconnected wire at the dist. to a broken gage.
The fan stays on all the time for ventalation. The controls can be set for heat or vent.

If you buy - I suggest you do a couple of things about the heater.
1 - install a shut off valve on the water line going to the heater core - stops hot water from running through.
2 - the fan is always on low - if the a/c doesn't work or you won't be using it, consider pulling the blower fuse.

A/C just needs a compresser, which is why I asked how much they were. I may just connect the two heater core tubes so as not to worry about it, or I could just leave it as it is supposed to be there.
