Transmission Shift Problem
My 79 had a broken down shift cable so I replaced it. I adjusted it so that the cable was pulled back away from the carb. The trans still shifts early into second and I cannot get it to kick down from third to second. Need help guys!

I'm assuming a TH350. The first thing to check is the vacuum line to the modulator (the modulator is on the front of the transmission, its a little round thing with a nipple on it). If the line is ok, consider replacing the modulator.
There are lots of posts on here describing how to adjust the cable. If you adjusted it correctly and it's shifting early and not kickingdown, I would suspect the modulator circuit.

un like a 700r4 a th 350 isnt as tempermental to adjust hold the throttle wide open see if the cable moves if tight go to the modulator remove it theres a valve and spring remove the spring put the valve in purshace a adjustable red stripe modulator road test it if ok stop there trango has 2 shift kits for th350s most performance place sell the hp kit try a transparts supplier and get there regular kit it will hold 2nd longer and give u springs to adjust shift points
