I am getting a squeal from the belts on the engine. I have removed the power steering and it did not fix it. The alternator belt is the only one on. I have replaced the Alternator and the water pump. Looking at it it seems to be miss aligned. What is the easiest way to check this? If it is off what is the best way to fix it.
Need to see a pic to tell if its not aligned.
I had a problem once with a alt belt squeling and it was because it was the wrong width belt, and would not fit in the groove correctly. this would cause it to squeal no metter how much I tightened it.
I chased a fan belt squeal for the last 6 months. I bought several belts, had the water pump rebuilt, and refinished all the pulleys. Culprit was the fan clutch. I used a yard stick from lowes to check my alternator alignment. It was a little off, but it wasn't causing my squeal......
Thanks guys I think it is the belt issue. Everything checked out today. It is a little better but still squeals. I guess I'll be looking for the correct belt. That leaves out all the normal parts stores
