Default Sealing A/C ducts - what do I use

I definatelly need more air on my upper vents. What can I use to seal the vents? Is this a PITA?

Thanks in advance.

I don't now the availability of HVAC contractor supply places around you, but that industry uses numerous thickness and widths of foam tape in sealing plenum's.. duct work etc.. Some is available through Grainger and McMaster Carr. Now this stuff is dense, sticks in place, excelent quality, seals well, and is cheaper than the Vette vendors. I doubt Home Depot or Menards carries this grade of foam, so if ya want something that is top quality... search the phone book for a HVAC supply store. Good luck in your search...

P.S. I got mine from work :D :D :D :D

Yep, like silvr says. I did mine with foam tape in the gaps and duct tape over that, and it works great.

I used 1/4" square adhesive back foam weatherstripping from Lowe's. I put it on the male end of the duct and it sealed as the duct was slid together. It is also easy to take apart. Duct tape is not user friendly especially for disassembly.

I'm in the process of doing just that job. Doing it the same way the other posters said.
I'm using regular foam with the adhesive backing. I think it is $2. a roll at Home Depot. It seems to seal nice and tight.
I cant see paying the Vette catalog prices for foam.

Where are you guys applying this stuff? At the vents (i.e. the center stack vent ducts and the ducts under the right hand side dash)?

I sealed the main plenum (from the inside evap case) to the center main duct, the right joint from the center main duct to the right side duct, the same for the left joint, and removed the center console vent outlets, cleaned out the old nasty foam and put some replacement foam there too. That really tightened up the outlets-- they stay put now.

I used the foam weatherstripping at all joints of the ducting. I used the felt strip seals for the vent *****. I don't believe the foam will stand up to the friction caused by moving the vent *****.
