BAT, SOL, & IGN Electrical Circuits
Greetings All,
I'm new to the forum. Forgive me if I didn't find the answer to this question via a search.
I'm testing new wiring harnesses. But just in case,... I've connected a 9V Duracell instead of the car battery. The question is: If all electrical components (starter, alternator, relays, etc.) are disconnected, should hot leads on the BAT, SOL, and IGN circuits maintain a constant 9V when connected to a Volt/Ohm meter?

If you have a circuit, the 9v battery connected to the wire, then the other side of the battery to ground, and you're checking the BAT red wire, yes. THe IGN wire will have 9v with the key on, and the SOL wire (purple 10 ga) when the key is turned to START.
Is the harness in the car or on the bench? I'm guessing you have it installed and trying to make sure you don't have a short somewhere.

Years ago had the same problem with my 66. for me the culprit was a bad connection where the wiring harness connects to the fuse block. where the two come together by the master cylinder, apparently there was a bad connection, possible corrosion.

BAT red wire -yes since this powers everything else. The solenoid also when the key is turned to start the car, this action closes the relay and allows the full battery current to the starter. If you were looking for shorts in the
engine harness, you can also bench test it out of the car with the ohm meter setting if you have a VOM. Funny thing is that I just put in a new engine harness and didn't even think it could be defective from the factory. I should
have done what you are doing now..
