Looking for ideas of what to try next aside from rewiring the entire car!
'81 with headlights that work MOST of the time and tail lights that work momentarily until the fuse blows (repeatedly) and dash lights that won't come on at all! I had
the light switch replaced but that didn't help...the fuse blew almost immediately (twice).
Any suggestions of what to look at next?
Thanks,
Pam
Start with the tail lights by removing the bulbs and see what that does, make sure the bulbs are all the correct types for the sockets they are in. Follow the wire harness from the bumper to the cabin wall looking for dammage. Inside you will need to remove the drivers seat and lift the carpet, follow the harness, it might have been dammaged by a stereo install or pinched under the seat frame. It will be in there somewhere.
You didn't say what the issue was with the headlights, but go through them, The sockets, grounds all up front. The only other places where you may find an issue is the dimmer switch in the column, or possibly in the firewall connector for the main harnes
I don't know if '81's are still that way, but older Chevy's had the dash lights and tail lights on the same fuse. So, whatever is blowing the fuse may be causing both the dash and tail light to go out.
