Advice from the IDLE experts needed.
77 manual 4 speed, stock SB.
I have an intermittent idle issue that has just surfaced.
The car has been purring perfectly and the idle has been dead solid and smooth for the last 1 1/2 years. (Thanks to all the great information on Timing I got from you guys!)
Recently, the idle has started to drop at random times by 200 rpm or so. One minute it is smooth and stable... and at the next stop light it is dropping.
Does this sound familiar to any of you (I could use a Ah-Ha! experience from a fellow vettester)
Can you point my in a specific direction to isolate the troubleshooting?
Intermittent would correlate to a spark plug/distributor issue as opposed to a vacuum issue?
I am in the middle of painting the car and would prefer not to use the "shotgun" approach... and narrow down my repair options to a logical thought process.

The experts should be here soon. In the interim, I've seen a weak/failing coil cause similar symptoms. First, just check that the electrical connections to the coil and dist are good.

Could be the vacuum advance. If it is on the borderline of vacuum threshold and pulling in and out changing the timing. Could be lots of other things too, but its one to check, thats if 81 had the advance. I dont remember.
