Default hot cam 12480002

I have a Stroked out ZZ4 brand new. Rotating assy.Actually a 377 CI. I was looking at GM hot cam kit # 12480002 This is for the Vortec Cast heads The kit also includes the 1.6 Roller rockers. Any thought on this? We usually run a completly differant cam configuration in our Marine versions. I am looking for ideas and comments. Oh, our car is an 81 with a Manual 4 speed at the present time. Al

I added the HotCam to my FastBurn 385 along with the 1:6 rockers. I believe it moved the powerband up a bit. It really wakes up between 3-3500 rpms.
It does have a nice flat torque curve and pulls hard up to at least 6000 rpms.

I believe the only difference between what I started with and your ZZ4 is the heads and I hope this was helpful.

I've never used it, doesn't look like a bad cam, I would think that you could probably do better, but not knowing stall and gears & not being familiar with the zz4..

I've just installed that cam, but it was in an LT1. Before I had this motor I was looking to use Vortec heads with a 400 I have. If I remember correctly, the Vortec heads can't take that much lift. I don't think that the LT4 springs will work with those heads.

To get more lift out of Vortecs, they have to be machined for taller springs, OR you can use Beehive springs.

218/228 is actually a very mild cam in a 377 especially with a 4 speed

They are only called a hot cam because computer controlled ignitions with knock sensors

How would this cam fair in a C4 that has to pass California smog tests?

My 1990 with 6 speed could use a boost.

I run the LT4 Hot Cam. Runs great, pulls to 6500 rpm with AFR 195 heads and RPM Air Gap manifold. 3.55 gears with 700R4.

Bee Jay is in southern Cal. But it is a cam that will pass emissions.

I don't know about passing smog, but the LT4 Hot Cam was sold as a replacement for the LT4 Cam by GM. I'm sure the C4 would still pass emissions.

Would I need to flash the computer?

This could be a real good thing.
